Innovation and Development

Innovation is the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, inarticulate needs, or existing market needs. This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments and society.

By increase innovation activity within the field of geothermal, the Iceland Geothermal Cluster Inititative aim is to emphaze on action like:

  • Increase value creation within the geothermal sector, based on reliable research, development and new thinking
  • Promote increased investments in international projects and innovation among cluster members
  • Make Iceland Geothermal become a valuable source of innovation projects with inititatives of various kinds

Create and build up platform to bring together researchers and companies that contribute to increased competitiveness and value creation in the geothermal industry.

Iceland Geothermal is open for discussion and cooperation with international entities to help drive innovation. Formulation of new programs, funds or any other efforts to increase the utilization of energy sources are of inters. Please contact us via email for more information.

Startup Energy Reykjavik

In 2013 the business accelerator program Startup Energy Reykjavik (SER) was founded by Landsvirkjun, Arion Bank, GEORG and Innovation Center Iceland in December 2013. The original concept was the result of a series of brainstorming meetings in one of Iceland Geothermal Discipline Groups. The concept was moved forward and since the SER-found was created 14 companies have been established and added to the fund’s portfolio.

Climate Launchpad 2015

Iceland Geothermal taking part in Climate Launchpad 2015. The cluster was asked to take a seat in the judge panel for the Icelandic finalist selection. The Iceland program is led by Mr. Stefán Thor Helgason from Klak Innovit.
